Every run that beat the odds
All 404 knockout runs across 103 tournaments that were less likely than a coin flip — ranked by how improbable they were, from mildly surprising to Greece.
Method: each team's Elo rating entering the tournament (clubs: entering the knockouts) sets a win probability for every knockout victory they actually achieved; multiplying those together gives the odds of the whole run. Penalty shootouts count as the near coin flips they are. A tournament's runs join the index once it finishes and its final result is scored.
Ratings: World Football Elo (national teams, entering each tournament) and ClubElo (clubs, entering each knockout phase). The number is the chance of winning exactly the matches they won, against the opponents they actually faced — knockout rounds only. Click any run to open its bracket with the path traced in gold.
